Trip Report

Great day, partly cloudy. Trail was moderate to fork. After fork, climb was constant up with poor footing over rocks that shifted under foot that made the walk tiring. Jackson had great views to Washington which was in and out of clouds. Mizpah Hut was clear. Eisenhower was clear, too. Walk to Webster was very pleasant. View from Webster into Crawford Notch and out to Bretton Woods was really neet. Windy. Descent to fork was moderate with fair footing – this was the direction to go. Cascade below fork was spectacular – moss against cascade and golden pool below was beautiful. Scramble up to the fork was almost vertical. We were too tired to visit the cliffs on Elephant Head.

Of note:

  • Could have merged two trips into really great one: Webser > Jackson > Pierce or reverse. What was I thinking?
  • 6.4 mi/ 6 hr.
  • Red squirrels can be so assertive. One got in our face at the cascade while we were taking a break.
